Mel the Robot Has Come to Life
Final teams flexed their microcontroller muscles in the 2012 Atmel® Robotics Contest (ARC) at World Maker Faire New York in September.
Competitors had to demonstrate their robots' abilities to complete a set of defined tasks. All of the student teams demonstrated creativity and technical excellence. The top three winners are:
- First Prize: Student laptop to Ryan Huston of Folsom Lake College in Folsom, California, for his robot, called Pinhead.
- Second Prize: Android tablet to Kristina Pardo, Andrea Fant, Evdokiya Kostadinova and Haris Khan from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, for their robot, named Aldo.
- Third Prize: HP 15C scientific calculator to Roger Tang, Ali Kocaturk, Sam Barani and Syed Sakib from the University of Texas at Austin for their robot, called DWAI (Don’t Worry About It).
