The Atmel® AVR® XMEGA® family of microcontrollers (MCUs) gives you the largest range of fully compatible products where all have true low-power capabilities. Each device in the family was designed with Atmel picoPower® technology, which scales so that large MCUs have the same low-power characteristics as smaller MCUs.

 

Unique Low-Power Capabilities

Compared to other low-power MCU families, the AVR XMEGA device has a larger memory range, lower sleep current with real time counter (RTC) running and full SRAM retention for fast wake-up and reaction time. MCUs in battery-powered applications typically spend more than 99% of their time in sleep mode, and require fast wake-up for optimal power efficiency and reaction time. With up to 50 times decrease in sleep current, the AVR XMEGA MCU enables optimal battery life time for applications needing a large memory size MCU to match those using a small memory size MCU.

With the AVR XMEGA device, you can avoid moving to more expensive multi-chip power management solutions as the memory requirements grow in applications where low sleep current is vital for the battery life. With more memory, you can support more functions and larger software stacks than in previous generations.

The newest AVR XMEGA MCUs feature a Full-Speed USB device with operation from an internal oscillator, 300ksps 12-bit ADC, DMA controller and event system that offload data transfer and inter-peripheral signaling from the CPU.
