Atmel maXStylus Active Stylus Wins Prestigious ACE Award from EE Times China
China's Electronic Design Community Endorses Atmel maXStylus Technology
Via Online Public Vote
Shenzhen, China, March 1, 2012 - Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch technology solutions, has announced that the Atmel maXStylus™ active stylus solution for handsets and tablets has been honored with a prestigious Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Award by EE Times China. The company was presented with the award, a Mixed-Signal Product of the Year honor, in a ceremony at the IIC-China 2012 exhibition on Feb. 24 in Shenzhen, China.
The maXStylus mXTS100 high-performance stylus solution, the first in the product line, enables simultaneous touch and stylus input on touchscreens through its multiSense functionality. End users, in turn, gain a rich touchscreen experience, one that supports advanced gesturing such as zooming in and out while writing and scrolling, page flipping while scrolling and easy selection of touchscreen tools and content.
The EE Times China ACE Awards recognize and reward the technologies, companies and people that shape innovative design in the electronics industry on the Chinese mainland. Finalists for the Company and Product Awards are chosen by EE Times editors. The winners are then selected via a public online vote, assuring that winning companies and products are chosen by the design engineering community at large in China.
"Naturally, Atmel is very honored to receive this award," said Jon Kiachian, vice president of marketing, touch products, at Atmel. "Stylus support for handsets and tablets is very much in demand from our customers, and the maXStylus solution provides a high-performance, cost-effective solution. Because we received this award in part due to a public vote, it’s clear that the design community in China recognizes the mXTS100, and the maXStylus family as a whole, as the stylus solution that's ideal for their touch-based applications."
The maXStylus mXTS100 active stylus transforms the stylus and touch experience, enabling precise, high-resolution writing with a narrow 1mm tip, excellent accuracy and linearity of +/- 0.25mm, advanced gesturing, excellent palm rejection and a pressure-sensing capability with 256 pressure levels to enhance the writing or drawing experience. The maXStylus family also supports dual mechanical buttons for customizable features tailored for the end customer.
Since the maXStylus mXTS100 active stylus is designed to work with Atmel maXTouch® E Series and maXTouch S Series touchscreen controller solutions, design engineers can simplify their designs. This configuration requires only a single indium tin oxide (ITO) sensor that interfaces with the maXTouch controller to detect finger touches and stylus proximity. The result is a simplified, low-cost design, based on capacitive sensing, that eliminates the cost of an additional sensor board and a digitizer IC, while delivering a high-performance stylus solution for handsets and tablets.
Atmel Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers, capacitive touch solutions, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and radio frequency (RF) components. Leveraging one of the industry's broadest intellectual property (IP) technology portfolios, Atmel is able to provide the electronics industry with complete system solutions focused on industrial, consumer, communications, computing and automotive markets.
