MCU Wireless chipset for IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee® applications. It is a bundle of the Atmel AVR ATmega2561 and Atmel AT86RF230 radio in the worldwide 2.4GHz frequency band.

The ATmega2561 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATmega2561 achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz allowing the system designer to optimize power consumption versus processing speed. It has 256KB in-system self-programmable flash, 54 programmable I/O lines, four 8-bit and six programmable PWM channels, 8-channel 10-bit ADC, and two programmable serial USART.

The AT86RF230 is a low-power 2.4GHz transceiver designed for low cost IEEE 802.15.4, targeted for IEEE802.15.4, ZigBee®, 6LoWPAN, RF4CE, SP100, WirelessHART™ and ISM applications. It is a true SPI-to-antenna solution providing a complete radio transceiver interface between the antenna and the microcontroller. All RF-critical components are integrated on a single chip minimizing the number of required external components to the antenna, crystal and decoupling capacitors.
