AVR042: AVR Hardware Design Considerations (14 pages, revision F, updated 4/08)
This Application Note covers the most common problems encountered when switching to a new microcontroller architecture like the AVR. Solutions and considerations for the most common design challenges are covered.
AVR076: AVR® CAN - 4K Boot Loader (34 pages, revision A, updated 8/09)
This document describes the "Slim" CAN boot loader functionality as well as its protocol to efficiently perform operations on the on chip Flash & EEPROM memories. This boot loader implements the "In-System Programming" (ISP). The ISP allows the user to program or re-program the microcontroller on-chip Flash & EEPROM memories without removing the device from the system and without the need of a preprogrammed application.

This bootloader has been developped with IAR compiler and supports AT90CAN32/64/128 and ATmega16M1/32M1/32C1/64M1/64C1 devices.
AVR452: Sensor-based Control of Three Phase Brushless DC Motors Using AT90CAN128/64/32 (10 pages, revision A, updated 03/06)
This application note describes the control of a BLDC motor with Hall effect position sensors. The implementation includes both direction and open loop speed control.
Migrating from T89C51CC01 & AT89C51CC03, to AT90CAN128, AT90CAN64, AT90CAN32 (7 pages, revision A, updated 06/05)
This application note is a guide, on the CAN controller, to help current T89C51CC01, AT89C51CC03 users convert existing designs to AT90CAN128, AT90CAN64, AT90CAN32.

Software Files: AT90CAN128/64/32 Plugin 1.0.6 (for AVR Studio 4.12 or higher)
The AT90CAN128/64/32 Plug-In offers a full view (non-paginated) of the CAN mailbox and the capability of stopping the CAN block activity in stop mode. This plug-in offers the simulation and emulation models of the CAN block.
This plugin is conceived to function only with the AT90CAN128/64/32 devices. It should be uninstalled before working with any other devices. Using this plugin with another device will result in a hang or crash of AVR studio.
