The high-performance Atmel® AVR® ATtiny816 is an 8-bit RISC-based microcontroller (MCU) with Atmel picoPower® low power technology. It integrates 8KB in-system programmable Flash memory, 512 Bytes SRAM, 128 Bytes EEPROM, 18 general-purpose I/O lines, 16 general-purpose working registers, two 16-bit timer/counters, one 12-bit timer/counter for advanced waveform generation, internal and external interrupts (up to 18), a 12-channel 10-bit A/D converter, 1-channel 8-bit D/A converter, on-chip superfast analog comparator, one full duplex USART with wake-up on start of transmission, one SPI serial port, one TWI (I2C) serial port, programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator, internal calibrated oscillator, 10-bytes unique ID (serial number), five calibrated internal voltage references (0.55V, 1.1V, 1.5V, 2.2V and 4.34V), and four software selectable power saving modes. In addition, the ATtiny816 features Configurable Custom Logic for combinatorial logic and sequential logic functions (glue logic). The device operates between 1.8-5.5 volts.

The ATtiny816 features the successful Atmel QTouch® Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) peripheral. The PTC acquires signals in order to detect touch on capacitive sensors, and supports both self- and mutual-capacitance sensors. The ATtiny816 PTC is supported by the Atmel QTouch Composer development tool (QTouch Library project builder and QTouch Analyzer). It provides a faster and less complex capacitive touch implementation in any application. The PTC features driven shield for improved moisture and noise handling performance.

It supports six buttons in self-capacitance mode, or up to nine buttons in mutual-capacitance mode. Mixing and matching mutual-and self-capacitance sensors is possible, and only one pin is required per electrode – no external components are required, giving savings on the BOM cost compared to competing solutions.

By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the device achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz, balancing power consumption and processing speed.

The ATtiny816 is a very versatile, low-cost, high-performance, easy-to-use MCU that fits almost any application. It can be used for system monitoring, battery measurements, battery charging, voltage measurements, current measurements, interface to buttons, switches, drive of small motors, drive LEDs and more.
