A complete starter kit and development system for the 8-bit and 32-bit AVR microcontrollers that gives designers a quick start to develop code on the AVR, with advanced features for prototyping and testing new designs.

The AVR device connects to the STK600 using an innovative routing and socketcard sandwich system, which routes the signals from the device to the appropriate hardware.

Note that a routing card and socket card for the specific device would need to be purchase separately.

The system consists of a generic socketcard, on which the AVR device is inserted, and a device specific signal routing card, which routes the signals from the socket pins to the different functions on the STK600 main board dependant on the device. This design simplifies hardware setup when switching from one AVR device to another, since all connections from the device to the motherboard are determined by the routing card, a custom board for each device. The routing system is purely passive; no electronic components route the signals, so all I/O pins are directly accessible on the connectors with no altering of the electrical behavior.

The kit offers access to all device pins, and several useful hardware functions such as pushbuttons, LEDs, and dataflash to create a complete system for prototyping and testing new designs. Free AVR Studio or AVR32 Studio lets designers write and compile firmware in either assembly or C language, and download the code to the target AVR device.

The board also has adjustable voltage supply and adjustable clock to the target AVR device. The VCC level and clock frequency can be adjusted on the fly from AVR Studio or AVR32 Studio, giving designers the ability to test the performance at different voltage levels and clock frequencies with just the click of a button.

The AVR Dragon sets a new standard for low cost development tools for 8-bit and 32-bit AVR devices with On Chip Debug (OCD) capability. It can perform a symbolic debug on all devices with OCD with SPI, JTAG, PDI (selected devices), high voltage serial programming, parallel programming, and aWire modes, and supports debugging using SPI, JTAG, PDI interfaces.

A development area lets designers build their own circuitry or add sockets for the desired device footprint. The debugger also supports NanoTrace, depending on the OCD module on the AVR device, using the target device's memory.

Note: Atmel AVR XMEGA PDI mode on AVR Dragon does NOT work for the following XMEGA devices: A3/D3 - revisions B, C and E or A1 (up to revision K).

A mid-range development tool for Atmel 8-bit and 32-bit AVR devices with on-chip debugging for source level symbolic debugging, NanoTrace (if supported by the device) and device programming. The ATAK42001-V1 evaluation kit includes the Atmel® LIN System Basis Chip ATA6641 with high-voltage switch interface. This low-cost, single-wire serial communication system for distributed electronics in vehicles is designed for body control applications, including power windows, mirrors, smart wipers, door locks, seat/roof/lighting control, lamps and indicators, dashboard instruments, steering wheels, climate and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, motors, switch panels and sensors. The ATA6641 System Basis Chip (SBC) with an eight-channel high-voltage switch interface, a LIN2.1 and SAEJ2602-2-compliant LIN transceiver, low-drop voltage regulator and an adjustable window watchdog enables the development of inexpensive, low-end, but also powerful slave and master nodes for LIN bus systems meeting the latest OEM requirements. The kit supports flexible configuration of different I/O types (digital switch, rotary switch, LED) and is controlled by a PC-based user interface.

The ATAK43001-V1 evaluation kit includes the Atmel® ATA664251 which is a System-in-Package (SiP) product, particularly suited for complete LIN-bus node applications. It consists of two ICs in one package and is especially designed for LIN-switch applications, including nearly the complete LIN node. The first chip is the LIN-system-basis-chip (LINSBC) ATA664151, which has an integrated LIN transceiver, a 5V regulator (80mA), a window watchdog, an 8-channel high voltage switch interface with high voltage current sources and a 16-bit SPI for configuration and diagnosis. The second chip is an automotive microcontroller from the series of AVR® 8-bit microcontrollers from Atmel with advanced RISC architecture, the Atmel ATtiny167 with 16-Kbytes flash memory. The kit is designed for evaluation of the ATA664251 SiP and facilitates the development of inexpensive, low-end, but also powerful nodes for LIN bus systems meeting the latest OEM requirements. It supports flexible configuration of different I/O types (digital switch, rotary switch, LED; controlled by PC-based user interface) and includes a debug & programming connector for convenient development of the embedded AVR µC software with standard AVR tools.

A development platform for SB20x reference designs, it offers an easy way to evaluate and develop battery management applications using the AVR microcontrollers. The platform includes a programmable charger and load, and a USB gateway to various serial protocols used by battery packs.

The development kit for the Atmel ATmega16HVA for battery packs with either one or two cells in series. The kit features autonomous battery protection, as well as very accurate voltage, current and temperature monitoring capabilities to protect the battery pack and surroundings from hazardous conditions and derive the most energy from the battery cells.

The SB202 is an evaluation and development kit for the Atmel ATmega32HVB. This device is made for battery packs with either one or two cells in series, and features autonomous battery protection as well as very accurate voltage, current and temperature monitoring capabilities. The device provides the means to protect the battery pack and surroundings from hazardous conditions and gain most energy from the Battery cells.

An evaluation kit making it easy to evaluate and develop battery management applications using the ATBM302.

The kit demonstrates the functionality of the Atmel® ATmega64HVE2 8-bit AVR® microcontroller in an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) application. A PC-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) allows to control and readout of voltage, current, and temperature measurement values.
The kit includes a reference design for Atmel ATmega64HVE2 and a IBS demo system with 100mOhm shunt, connected via LIN Bus, enclosed LIN Master and finally via USB to the GUI running on the host PC.

The Atmel Light and Proximity delivers a compete optical sensing solution combining an Ambient Light Sensor for adjusting system settings based on ambient conditions, such as backlight strength to optimize power consumption, with three IR based emitters for use in proximity detection. The Atmel MEGA-1284P Xplained evaluation kit is a hardware platform for evaluating the Atmel ATmega1284P microcontrollers. The MEGA-1284P Xplained contain one QTouch button sensor, three mechanical buttons, four LEDs, 3 analog sensors, and a UART to USB bridge. The AVR Xplained expansion headers provide easy access to analog and digital I/O pins. The board is powered by the USB cable and equipped with the standard 10-pin JTAG header that connects to the full range of AVR debuggers.

NOTE: The MEGA-1284P Xplained can be used to evaluate the ATmega164/324/644/1284 microcontrollers and the A, P and PA versions of these devices. These devices share the same peripherals, and differ only in memory size electrical characteristics such as power consumption. The peripherals are in general functionally compatible with other megaAVR devices, and the MEGA-1284P Xplained can thus be used as a general evaluation platform for other megaAVRs as well. Alternatively the STK600 can be used if specific devices need to be evaluated.

The Atmel® UC3-A3 Xplained evaluation kit is a hardware platform for evaluating the Atmel AT32UC3A3256 microcontroller. The kit offers a range of features that enable the Atmel AVR® UC3 user to get started using AVR UC3 peripherals right away and understand how to integrate the AVR UC3 device in their own design.

NOTE: The UC3-A3 Xplained is suited for evaluation of both UC3A3 and UC3A4 microcontrollers. The two series share the same peripherals, except that the UC3A3 features a External Bus Interface (EBI) while the UC3A4 does not.
The AES peripheral of the UC3A3S/A4S and the Audio peripheral of the UC3A3AU are not supported by the device on this board. To evaluate these features please use the EVK1104S and EVK1104AU respectively.  

Evaluation kit and development board for the Atmel 32-bit AVR AT32UC3C0512C microcontroller featuring Floating-point Unit (FPU), dual CAN interfaces, dual LIN interfaces, Motor Control PWM and ADC, USB OTG, Peripheral Event System and true 5V I/O.

The Atmel® XMEGA-A1 Xplained evaluation kit is a hardware platform for evaluating the Atmel ATxmega128A1 microcontroller. The kit offers a range of features that enable the Atmel AVR XMEGA® user to get started using AVR XMEGA peripherals right away and understand how to integrate the AVR XMEGA device in their own design.

NOTE: The XMEGA-A1 Xplained can be used to evaluate the XMEGA A1/A3/A4 and A1U/A3U/A4U devices. The devices shares the same peripherals, but the A1, A3 and A4 devices has different pin count and hence different number of each peripherals. The difference between A and AU devices is that AU features a USB Full-speed Device module. This USB module can be evaluated using STK600 or the XMEGA-A3BU Xplained.

The Atmel AVR Xplained kits are great platforms for early evaluation of the capabilities offered by the Atmel AVR microcontrollers. The XMEGA-A3BU Xplained contain one QTouch button sensor, three mechanical buttons, two LEDs, 3 analog sensors, a USB port, battery backup system and a 128x32 pixel FSTN LCD display.

The AVR Xplained expansion headers provide easy access to analog and digital I/O pins. The board is powered by the USB cable and equipped with the standard 10-pin JTAG header that connects to the full range of AVR debuggers.

NOTE: The XMEGA-A3BU Xplained can be used to evaluate the XMEGA A1/A3/A4 and A1U/A3U/A4U devices. The devices shares the same peripherals, but the A1, A3 and A4 devices has different pin count and hence different number of each peripherals. The A3BU devices features Battery Back-up for the RTC peripheral, which the other devices does not. The XMEGA A1 devices features an External Bus Interface (EBI) which the A3BU devices does not. To evaluate the EBI it is recommended to use the XMEGA-A1 Xplained.

The Atmel® XMEGA-B1 Xplained evaluation kit is a hardware platform for evaluating the Atmel ATxmega128B1 microcontroller. The kit offers a range of features that enable the Atmel AVR® XMEGA® user to get started using AVR XMEGA peripherals right away and understand how to integrate the AVR XMEGA device in their own design.

The Atmel® XMEGA-C3 Xplained evaluation kit is a hardware platform for evaluating the Atmel ATxmega384C3 microcontroller. The kit offers a range of features that enable the Atmel AVR® XMEGA® user to get started using AVR XMEGA peripherals right away and understand how to integrate the AVR XMEGA device in their own design.

This tool is used for field upgrades of Atmel 8-bit AVR microcontrollers with ISP or PDI interfaces. Using the included AVR Studio® software, designers can program tinyAVR and megaAVR devices using the ISP Interface, tinyAVR devices using the TPI interface, and AVR XMEGA devices using the PDI Interface. The AVR Studio online-help contains the most current information and a complete list of supported devices.

QTouch Library is a set of pre-compiled binaries for supported AVR and Atmel ARM-based microcontrollers. The library supports both QTouch and QMatrix acquisition methods.

The Atmel® Software Framework (ASF) is a MCU software library providing a large collection of embedded software for Atmel flash MCUs: megaAVR, AVR XMEGA, AVR UC3 and SAM devices.

In addition to the driver libraries, there are a number of demonstration projects available to provide examples of common usage of sensor systems, and accelerate your initial development.

Demonstration projects illustrate how to bring together the sensor API, libraries, board support modules, ASF drivers, and configuration constants to build standalone applications. The following provide examples of available projects, the compete list of available projects is available through the AVR Studio 5.

• Inertial Sensor Demonstration (inertial_demo)
  Obtains acceleration, rotation, magnetic heading, and temperature data from an inertial sensor board. Data is sent via USB to a connected host PC for display using a terminal program.
• Inertial Sensor Wakeup Demonstration (wake_demo)
  This application demonstrates the use of the sensor event handing mechanism to wake up the system from a low power sleep mode when a sensor event occurs.
• Compass Sensor Calibration (compass_calibration)
  Demonstrates a manual calibration sequence for compass/magnetometer devices.
• Pressure Sensor Demonstration (pressure_demo)
  Obtains atmospheric pressure and temperature data from a pressure sensor board. The data is sent via a USB connection to a connected host PC for display using a terminal program.
• Sensor Data Visualizer (inertial_visualizer)
  This application obtains sensor data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, and temperature sensors on an ATAVRSBIN1 Inertial One or ATAVRSBIN2 Inertial Two Sensor Boards. The data is formatted into special packets, and is sent via a USB connection to a connected host PC for display using the special Atmel Data Visualizer application.

The Windows PC Data Visualizer application provides a graphical, real-time display of data sent from a microcontroller board via a USB connection. The ADV tool uses special configuration data sent from the target system to define multiple data streams, each with an oscilloscope-like display of data values. The captured data may also be saved to a standard comma-separated-value file for export and subsequent analysis.

Atmel AVR Toolchain is also available as Toolchain Extension at the Toolchain Extension Gallery of Atmel Studio 6. Only those users who wish to run the Atmel AVR Toolchain as standalone tools from the command line need to download and install this package.

Atmel AVR Toolchain is also available as Toolchain Extension at the Toolchain Extension Gallery of Atmel Studio 6. Only those users who wish to run the Atmel AVR Toolchain as standalone tools from the command line need to download and install this package.

An integrated development environment (IDE) for all Atmel 32-bit AVR applications. Features include project file management, task management and version control integration (CVS); a C/C++ editor with syntax highlighting, navigation and code completion; a debugger supporting run control including source and instruction-level stepping and breakpoints; registers, memory and I/O views; and target configuration and management.

The software suite is built on Eclipse for easy integration with third-party plugins for increased functionality.

AVR32 Studio supports development and debugging of standalone (without an operating system) applications and Linux applications for the AT32AP7 device family. Third-party plug-ins are available for debugging other operating systems. It also supports all Atmel tools that support the 32-bit AVR architecture, including the AVR ONE!, JTAGICE mkII and STK600.

The IDE integrates with the AVR32 GNU Toolchain. The GNU C Compiler (GCC) compiles C/C++ programs, while the GNU debugger (GDB) debugs the target application. Atmel AVR32 avr32program and avr32gdbproxy utilities deploy and debug standalone applications as well as target voltage and clock generator adjustments.

Motor Control Center (MCC) is a customizable PC program to control electrical motor-based embedded applicatons. It comes ready to use with all Atmel 8-bit and 32-bit AVR-based motor control kits that use Atmel motor control interface protocol. MCC for Windows requires Java Run-time Environment version 1.5 or above.

BSDL files are used to perform electronics testing through the JTAG interface.

Each BSDL file describes one version of the microcontroller and has many package pin maps as are available for a particular microcontroller.

An IBIS file contains IBIS models for the specific voltage, inductance, capacitance, and resistance values for the I/O pins in a specific microcontroller for all packages available.
