| TimeSys Provides Embedded Linux Support for AT91CAP Customizable Microcontrollers |
TimeSys® is now offering a free Board Support Package (BSP) for the AT91CAP9 ARM9-based customizable microcontroller, based on the Linux® 2.6.23 kernel. The free BSP enables application developers to rapidly validate Linux on the AT91CAP9A Development Board that includes an FPGA for emulation of the CAP™ Metal Programmable Block for custom logic. This BSP includes Atmel's Linux kernel and drivers, BusyBox utilities for basic commands and features, and a Linux host/cross toolchain capable of re-building the Linux kernel and the basic packages included in the BSP. Together with a full documentation set and basic support, this offering provides a ready-to-use package to validate Linux with Atmel's CAP customizable microcontroller. Additionally, the free BSP can be upgraded to a full LinuxLink subscription, providing a powerful suite of software, tools and support to accelerate the development of a custom Linux platform.

| Atmel and Telit Revolutionize Machine-to-Machine Communications System Design for Processor-intensive Applications |
Telit Wireless Solutions, an international leader in the field of machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, has launched the GE863-PRO³, the first product its dual-processor range to feature an Atmel AT91SAM9260 ARM9-based processor running the application in tandem with a dedicated processor for GPRS communication. It provides the extremely high processing power and the flexibility to support today's rapidly changing M2M market that demands more advanced features and more processing power at ever-shorter intervals. Its standard form factor and easy integration make the Telit module particularly attractive for applications such as POS terminals or fleet management. Whereas in the past just one sub-50 MIPS microcontroller took care of alternate communication and application tasks, the 200 MIPS AT91SAM9260 processor now controls only real-time applications, while the second GPRS processor handles time-critical GPRS communications transactions. The GE863-PRO3 has met with tremendous market success since its launch in Q4 2007.

| Atmel Presents its Automotive Products at AES China 2008, Shanghai |
Atmel announced its participation to the 4th China International Automotive Electronics Products and Technologies Show and Summit (AES) in Shanghai, May 19-21, 2008. On booth 101/102/103, Atmel will demonstrate its latest products for automotive applications, including body electronic solutions (stand-alone control function devices, high-temperature driver ICs, a LIN family of transceivers, System Basis Chips and System-in-Package solutions, as well as CAN devices), automotive AVR® microcontrollers, automotive RF solutions for car access and tire-pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) as well as general-purpose serial EEPROMs. At the show, the company will make the following announcements: -- High-temperature driver devices for automotive applications. The new high-temperature hex half-bridge driver ICs ATA6837 and ATA6839 are designed for passenger car applications as well as for the use in 24V truck applications. They exhibit all the advantages of Atmel's high-voltage 0.8 um BCD-on-SOI technology (SMART-I.S.®), including superior latch-up immunity and reduced junction leakage. The new ICs have an operating chip temperature of 200°C and are able to dissipate approximately twice the power of conventional driver ICs, which can normally only work up to 150°C chip temperatures. -- Programmable, ultra low-power RF transmitter IC for car access and TPMS applications. The fully integrated fractional-N PLL RF transmitter IC ATA5749 is one of the very few automotive RF transmitter ICs that is fully programmable, thus enabling flexible system design and adaptation. Moreover, it is one of only a few such devices with ultra low power consumption – a significant factor for TPMS applications. Its active current consumption in transmission mode is about 20% less than the values of currently available solutions on the market. In addition, Atmel will present a paper on its high-temperature technology solutions during the Technical Seminars at AES on May 20. Read more |
