AVR® 8-Bit RISC - Applications - Automotive Applications

AVR 8-bit architecture has reached a high level of acceptance in many market segments for its performance, high code density and efficient development tool set. It is perfectly suited for many automotive applications. The range of devices made available to automotive already covers a variety of needs and will expand rapidly in the future. AVR devices incorporate all the basic peripherals as well as powerful analog functions.

Typical applications cover sensors and actuators control and in-vehicle networking with CAN (Controller Area Network) and LIN (Local Interconnect Network). In addition to usual manufacturing and development plant qualifications (ISO-TS-16949 and QS-9000) automotive products are being qualified according to the AEC Q100 (Automotive Electronic Council) requirements, and a PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) document is made available for each product.

Three different temperature ranges are available to serve the various application constraints. Special part numbering has been defined in order to differentiate automotive devices from standard industrial ones with special characters devoted to grade/temperature:
T: -40°C to +85°C — T1: -40°C to +105°C —
Z: -40°C to +125°C — T2:-40°C to +150°C

Automotive Dedicated Development Tools
ATAVRAUTO102 CAN and LIN Debug Kit
The ATAVRAUTO102 kit is a debugger usable for one CAN and two LIN networks. It monitors traffic on networks and can send messages on CAN or LIN networks through its USB PC interface (cable included). It can also be used as a fast programmable CAN/LIN gateway.
This kit includes Warwick Technology PC software and a programming interface (AUTO900) for standard AVR tools (AVR ISP or JTAGICE). No drivers are needed as the kit uses Windows XP and is Vista-compatible.

ATAVRAUTOEK1 CAN and LIN Evaluation Kit
The ATAVRAUTOEK1 evaluation kit is a very complete ready to use CAN/LIN network with one CAN-LIN gateway (AUTO100) and two LIN slave nodes. One node is used for joystick control (AUTO300) and one node for DC motor control (AUTO200).
It provides a CAN/LIN network debugger (AUTO102) connected to PC via USB, allowing to monitor and transmit on both networks using Warwick Technology PC software. It allows customer to quickly start and evaluate Atmel automotive network solutions.
Also included is a programming interface (AUTO900) for standard AVR tools (AVR ISP or JTAGICE).
