Asahi Kasei Micro Devices (AKM)
Sensor Hub Expertise:    Sensors

AKM’s advanced mixed-signal ICs feature low power consumption, high speed, and high precision. Mixed-signal ICs play an essential role in bridging the gap between the analog information of the natural world and the digital information of electronic systems. Applications range from mobile communications to networking gear to automobiles. The electronic compass is an advanced product which combines magnetic sensors and ICs in a single device. It finds widespread use in smartphones and other portable devices.

Product Information

Name:   AK8963

A 3-Axis electronic compass IC with highly-sensitive Hall sensor technology. It is best adapted to pedestrian city navigation use for mobile phone and other portable appliance.

Block Diagram

  • A Hall-effect magnetic sensor with a magnetic concentrator realizes a 3-axis magnetometer on a monolithic silicon chip. Analog circuitry, digital logic, a power block, and an interface block are also integrated on-chip.
  • Wide dynamic measurement range and high resolution with low current consumption.
  • Features a digital serial interface.
  • DRDY (data ready) pin and register inform to system that measurement is ended and the data in the register is ready to be read.
  • Contains an on-chip oscillator so no external clock source is necessary.
  • Self -test function with internal magnetic source confirms magnetic sensor operation on end products.

  • World standard 3-axis compass.
  • A thin and small package enables flexible layout.
