The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. It is a rapidly growing, non-profit industry consortium of leading semiconductor manufacturers, technology providers, and worldwide OEMs with over 50 members.
As an active member of the ZigBee Alliance, Atmel strongly supports this wireless communications solution that will be embedded in consumer electronics, home and building automation, industrial controls, PC peripherals, medical applications, and electronic toys and games. ZigBee, which is based on an IEEE 802.15.4 PHY burst rate of 20-250kbps, is targeted to low data rate applications. It utilizes the IEEE 802.15.4 WPAN standard for the Media Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY). ZigBee adds the application and network protocols to 802.15.4 to ensure interoperability between vendors. For more details on the ZigBee Alliance, visit the ZigBee Alliance website.

IPSO Alliance
The IPSO Alliance is a global non-profit organization serving the various communities seeking to establish the Internet Protocol as the network for the connection of Smart Objects by providing coordinated marketing efforts available to the general public. Our purpose is to provide a foundation for industry growth through building stronger relationships, fostering awareness, providing education, promoting the industry, generating research, and creating a better understanding of IP and its role in connecting Smart Objects.
IEEE
The IEEE, a non-profit organization, is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Through its global membership, the IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. Members rely on the IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services.
IETF
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet. It is open to any interested individual. The IETF Mission Statement is documented in RFC 3935.
6lowpan.net
IPv6 over IEEE802.15.4 (a.k.a. 6LoWPAN) is a communication network for limited power and relaxed throughput requirements. It comprises devices that conform to the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard and are characterized by short range, low bit rate, low power and low cost. These devices work together to connect the physical environment to real-world applications, e.g., wireless sensors. 6LoWPAN uses IPv6 as the networking technology.
