The Atmel AVR XMEGA A series has a comprehensive set of features including high-performance analog with dual 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), extensive connectivity with Full-speed USB Device functionality integrated, numerous USARTs, serial peripheral interface (SPI) and two-wire serial interfaces, as well as a crypto engine with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)/Data Encryption Standard (DES). The device can be used in a wide range of applications and products, such as building, industrial, motor, board, and climate control; hand-held battery products; factory automation; power tools; HVAC systems; networking; metering; large home appliances; and optical and medical devices.

The Atmel AVR XMEGA B Series is first AVR XMEGA microcontroller (MCU) series to integrate a LCD controller to help reduce design complexity and lower overall system cost, while providing ultra-low power consumption for applications and products requiring a user interface, including utility metering, home automation, climate control, industrial control, sports equipment, toys, eTokens, medical equipment, power tools and fire alarm systems. The ultra-low power LCD driver needs only 3μA to run the LCD display and has several power-reducing features.

The Atmel AVR XMEGA C devices are entry-level USB-enabled 8/16-bit microcontrollers in the AVR XMEGA family. The Full-Speed USB Device interface requires no external components, and reduces the overall bill-of-materials (BOM) count and cost for any USB application. The XMEGA C devices are well-suited for applications where a low-cost USB connection is required.
