Atmel® Xplained is a fast prototyping and evaluation platform for Atmel 8- and 32-bit AVR and ARM-based Microcontrollers. It consists of a series of low cost, easy to use kits for evaluation and demonstration of features and capabilities of different Atmel Flash MCU and MPUs. The boards are mounted with connectors for customization or direct plug-in of a rich set of expansion boards.
For the AVR and ARM-based Flash MCU Xplained kits, a rich selection of example projects and code drivers are provided in Atmel Studio. Code functionality is easily added by pulling in additional drivers and libraries from the Atmel Software Framework.
The SAMA5D3 Xplained board comes with a free of charge Linux distribution including Linux Kernel 3.10 (LTS), Linux Mainline and Yocto 1.5.1 support. Bare metal developers benefit from a complete C software package including many examples to get started fast. The board is also a perfect development platform for headless Android.
A wide range of add-on boards is available, including, inertial pressure and temperature sensors, ZigBee RF, and Cryptographic authentication. Due to difference in features such as pin count or memory size, some add-on boards may not work with all MCU boards. The table below summarizes recommended combinations.
