Designing Low-Cost High Performance Data Transmission Systems
Atmel offers industry-leading performance for RF devices operating in the license-free ISM frequency bands (5.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 868 to 928 MHz, 433 MHz, and 315 MHz). Our devices support both unidirectional or bidirectional data communication to meet a broad range of proprietary wireless industrial and consumer applications such as automatic metering, alarm systems, home control, toys and gaming.
Our Smart RF products include unidirectional devices with a single transmitter, bi-directional devices with dual transceivers and high-performance receivers.
All Atmel RF components are designed to work together flawlessly to give you the reassurance of error free design, integration, and testing. We integrate all the building blocks you need for both base and the mobile stations in typical remote control and access control systems.
Key Features
- Integrated design — Because of our experience in digital and analog design, we have produced a portfolio of RF devices that deliver the largest link budget in the industry. System level functions such as automatic transmission, frame acknowledgement and hardware security accelerators offload the microcontroller to reduce power and computation burden.
- Broad data rate and transmission support — Our devices support data rates from1Kb/s to 20Kb/s (FSK) and 1Kb/s to 10Kb/s (ASK) in Manchester mode and bi-phase mode, plus other codes in transparent mode with programmable bit ranges.
- Broad frequency range support — Our devices also support all license-free ISM frequency bands (5.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 868 to 928 MHz, 433 MHz, and 315 MHz) so you can design products that target a wide range of proprietary wireless industrial and consumer applications.
- High sensitivity — Low-IF receivers provide high selectivity, blocking and low intermodulation, eliminating the need for bulky blocking surface acoustic wave (SAW filters in remote control units.
- Low current consumption — In operation, idle, and sleep mode for long battery lifetime.
- Adjustable output power — Transceiver devices support a power output range from 0 to 10dBm; the output can be adjusted and stabilized with external resistors.

Atmel Receiver ICs are designed to meet the demands of low-cost, low power consumption RF data transmission systems. They fit a wide range of automotive, industrial, and customer applications including aftermarket keyless entry systems, tire pressure monitoring systems, telemetering, consumer/industrial remote control applications, home entertainment, access control systems, and security technology systems.
Designers can choose between two types of Smart RF receivers: - Atmel ATA8201 & ATA8202 – These UHF ASK/FSK transparent receiver ICs come in a 5 by 5-mm QFN24 package and support popular encryption protocols such as Keeloq®. The highly integrated design requires no RF components except for those needed for receiver antenna matching. ATA8201 a receiving range of 313 to 317-MHz and ATA8201 supports a receiving range of 433 to 435-MHz.
- Atmel ATA8203, ATA8204 and ATA8204 – These multi-chip Phase Locked Loop (PLL) receiver devices come in a SSO20 package and support data rates from 1 to 10Kb/s in Manchester or bi-phase code. ATA8203 supports a receiving range of 312.5 to 317.5MHz, ATA8204 supports a receiving range of 431.5 to 436.5MHzm, and ATA8203 supports a receiving range of 868 to 870MHz.
