ATR2406 Loop Filter and Data Rates

This application note describes the fundamentals of the internal VCO and PLL of the ATR2406. Two possible ways of modulating a PLL system, open loop and closed loop, are explained in more detail. Methods of increasing the effective data rate are explained, as well as the influence of different loop-filter bandwidths on the performance of the PLL. Finally, a loop filter selection chart helps the user to choose the right loop filter and, thus, the right component values for the target application.
